Our after hour phone calls will be handle through Methodist Medical Center operator they will have Dr James or Mel Sisco, P.A. and we will return your phone call. If we don’t call back within 15 minutes please have us paged to get.

We see patients from birth through 22 years of age. We only accept new patients that are less than twelve years of age. We do have certain criteria under which all our patients must meet to continue to be our patients. We will not see patients that are married, pregnant or parents, or are no longer is school.

Patients can be brought in by either parent or legal guardians. On your first visit you will be asked to fill out many papers, one of which is a page where you can list any people you want to give permission to bring your child to the doctor. In emergencies we can obtain verbal permission from a parent over the phone.

Physical or well child appointments are made on the hour and half hour. These appointments are usually made well in advance and are given out in a first come, first served basis. We recommend making your next well child appointment as you are leaving each well child appointment. We try to work with your schedule as much as we possibly can.

Sick visits are made on the same day. We make it our policy that if you have a sick child that needs to be seen we will try and see them on the day that you call. Please understand that we are always going to be seeing every sick child that calls so the appointments will be made to fit into the existing schedule of that day at our earliest convenience. Please understand that we cannot see you on the same day if you wait until the end of our clinic day to call and make an appointment.

We will gladly see all sick children on the day that they are sick. We will not work in a well child appointment unless we have had a cancellation because it is not fair to patients that have made appointments well in advance. Please understand that if your insurance requires you to pay a co-pay, it will be required for each of your children we see. Please tell the front window if you intend to have another child seen so we can collect the co-pay and have the chart ready for the physician.

Please call us so we can cancel your appointment if you are not going to make it in to the office. If you have three missed appointments that you did not call and cancel you will be dismissed from our practice. If you are running more that twenty minutes late for a well child appointment we ask that you reschedule your appointment. If you are late for a sick visit we will still try and see you, but you will be worked into the schedule at a later time.

We ask that you call and leave a message a few days before you need your refill so that we can have your prescription ready for you, or call it in to your pharmacy. We do not call in prescriptions after hours or on an emergent basis…..Poor planning on your part does not make an emergency on ours. Please understand that some medication actually requires you to have a follow-up with the physician prior to being filled.

Good question… it depends on what is happening that day. We cannot predict what is going to come through the door or how long it is going to take to care for each patient. Each patient will be given the amount of time needed to take care of their problem and that same courtesy will be extended to your child. We ask that you be patient on those days and please wish happy thoughts to the poor child that is causing us to get behind.

For most children that are coming sick and for the most part contagious we ask that they go to the sick waiting room so that they do not get our well children sick. We usually ask what your child is being seen for when we are making their appointments. If we think that your child may have some extremely contagious and potentially dangerous disease we will arrange for them to enter the building through another entrance and skip the waiting rooms.

We will never see well child appointments on a walk-in basis. We would prefer you to make appointments for your sick children so we can control patient flow. If you do walk-in without an appointment we will see you, but it will be after we see the patients that have already made an appointment. The only time that walk-ins are not frowned upon is when you have a really sick kiddo and you get there right as we start to see patients.

We ask that you allow us time to make copies of your child’s immunization (shot) record, school form, or medical record. Please plan ahead and allow enough time for us to meet your needs. Our clinic policy is to have immunization record copy completed within 24-48 hours, school forms filled out within 1-3 days, and medical records completed with 10 working days. All requests for medical records must have a signed “Consent Form of Release of Medical Information” completed prior to your obtaining a copy of your child’s health information. Please remember that at times a school form may require that your child be seen prior to the physician completing the form.

Yes, come in when no one else wants to be here. If you want to get in and out quickly try and be the first patients we see in the morning or afternoon. Everyone wants to sleep in or come in after school or work, so those are by far our busiest times.

Insurances require that we collect co-pays up front prior to us billing your insurance company. We therefore ask you to have your co-pay available for each visit. If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not cover a certain procedure or visit we ask that you pay that visit in full at the time you are seen. We accept cash, checks and credit cards. If you get an unexpected bill that you cannot pay in full we ask that you contact us to make a payment arrangement. Do not make a payment arrangement up on your own as unpaid balances without arrangement will be sent to a collection agency after a period of five (5) months. Patients that are turned over to a collection agency twice will be dismissed from the practice. Patients that file bankruptcy and list our balance to be dismissed in bankruptcy proceedings will also be dismissed from our practice.

We do not have an automated phone system because Dr. James hates them with his very soul. You will get a real live person… it may not be the person you want to talk to, but they will be alive. If you need to talk to someone that is not available at that time we will take a message and they will get back with you as soon as possible. Please understand if you are leaving a message for the physician they will try and return them if possible between patients but will mostly return them either over the lunch break or after clinic is done. If you need to know whether you need to be seen or not ask to talk to one of the nurses.

We do new baby hospital rounds at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, TN. We can directly admit patients of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, but because of the distance from the hospital to the clinic our patients are seen in the hospital of the ETCH hospitalist team. We of course accept newborns born at any hospital.

We think that vaccinating your children is one of the best things you can do for them to keep them healthy. Most of the information against vaccines has been misleading or just wrong. We will be happy to answer your questions or concerns about vaccinations.

If you still have unanswered questions, feel free to give us a call at (865) 483-5678 or e-mail us.
