Born in Elyria, Ohio just outside of Cleveland, Mel was the youngest of five children. He and his family lived briefly in Birmingham, Alabama before settling in Inez, Kentucky. There, he graduated from Sheldon Clark High School in 1990 and Morehead State University in 1994. After earning a bachelor’s degree in University Studies and an associate’s degree in Radiology, Mel worked as a CT and MRI Technologist for 16 years, including 8 years as an MRI technologist for Fort Loudon Medical Center and Parkwest in Knoxville.
In 2008, Mel began the process of becoming a Physician Assistant. He graduated from South College in 2011 and started working at Kids Central Pediatrics soon thereafter.
In addition to Dr. James and the staff at Kids Central Pediatrics, who Mel considers extended family, he is the proud parent of three beautiful children: Alexandrea, Wyatt, and Waylon.
