Urgent Care

Urgent Care Q & A
What is urgent care?
If your child sustains a non-life-threatening injury or illness requiring immediate medical care, urgent care allows them to see a doctor right away, while avoiding expensive emergency room visits. The Kids Central Pediatrics team offers same-day appointments to provide prompt diagnosis and treatment for kids of all ages.
Why might my child need urgent care?
Your child may require urgent care treatment if they experience a sports-related injury, another injury requiring immediate attention, or are ill. Urgent care visits might be necessary if your child has the following signs or symptoms:
- Flu or high fever
- Strep throat
- Ear infection
- Fractures
- Breathing problems
- Dehydration
- Concussion
- Sprains or strains
- Sports-related injuries
- A laceration or other soft tissue injury
If you’re unsure if your child requires urgent care treatment, the Kids Central Pediatrics staff can answer your questions over the phone and let you know if a same-day appointment is necessary.
What happens at urgent care appointments?
When you arrive at an urgent care appointment at Kids Central Pediatrics, a friendly team member greets you and checks your child’s weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, or other vital signs.
Your pediatrician reviews your child’s symptoms and medical history, and completes a comprehensive physical exam. They examine an injury or your child’s throat, ears, eyes, nose, breathing, heartbeat, limbs, and abdomen. Your doctor may also complete blood tests, X-rays, other imaging procedures, or a rapid strep or flu test to make a diagnosis.
Will my child require treatment?
If your child has an illness, disease, or injury requiring treatment, your Kids Central Pediatrics specialist might recommend one or more of the following.
- Antibiotics
- Other prescription or over-the-counter medications
- A cast, flexible brace, or another type of fracture care
- Stitches
- Breathing treatments
- Allergy medicines
- An inhaler
- At-home treatments
Sometimes simply getting plenty of rest and drinking a lot of fluids is all that’s needed to help your child make a full recovery. Your pediatrician at Kids Central Pediatrics offers the flu and other vaccines for disease prevention.
If your child sustains a non-life-threatening injury or is ill and requires same-day urgent care, schedule an appointment with Kids Central Pediatrics over the phone or online today.
